1. Mehandipur Balaji Temple, Rajasthan

Located in the Dausa district of Rajasthan, the shrine of Lord Hanuman is well-known as one of the mysterious temples of India. The legend goes as Lord Hanuman appeared in the dream of Shri Mahant Ji. The lord ordered Mahant Ji to serve him.

Well-versed for exorcism from evil spirits attachments and black magic or spells, the mysterious temple has a spooky vibe to it. The priest of this chapel also practices exorcism. Thousands of people visit the place to cure their families and relatives of evil spirits. When you visit the shrine, you can hear the screams of those people. The temple has an uncanny aura in the air that can give you goosebumps.

2. Kamakhya Devi Temple: Guwahati, Assam

Situated at the top of Nilachal hill, Devi Kamakhya expresses the dignity of femininity.

The origin of this sanctum connects with the myth of Sati. After Sati took her life for her father insulting her husband, Lord Shiva went on a rampage. The world was in chaos. So, afraid of world destruction, Lord Vishnu used Sudarshana to exterminate the corpse of Sati. The parts of her body scattered over the continent. The organ Yoni landed on Nilachal hill.

In this mysterious temple of India, there is a stone shaped like a yoni. The word Yoni denotes the feminine organ or womb. This century-old chapel stays close annually every June. As the  Goddess bleeds during that time, causing the underground water to red.

The chapel reopens on the fourth day. During the monsoon, there is the Ambubachi festival to celebrate the fertility of the goddess.

3. Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kerala

Located in the capital town of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram is the mysterious temple of Sree Padmanabhaswamy.

The shrine is one of the 108 principal Divya Desams in Vaishnavism. According to belief, Parasurama purged and revered the idol of Sree Padmanabhaswamy in Dvapara Yuga. He then assigned the authority of the temple with seven Potti families.

To protect the sanctity, only the believers of Hindus have the allowance to enter. According to the ancient manuscript, the temple is shrouded with 6 vaults. All the treasure of the shrine is hidden behind those vaults.

4. Meenakshi Amman Temple, Tamil Nadu

At the heart of Madurai, there is the mysterious temple of Meenakshi Amman. 

This sanctum bears a mythological significance. According to the legends, this place is where Lord Shiva turned into Sundareswarar to wed with Goddess Parvati. The architectural style of this chapel is also a delightful example of excellent craftsmanship.

The shrine also got a nomination for the seven wonders of the world. Inside the temple, there are enormous illustrations of God and Goddess, with mythical creatures.

5. Kailasa Temple, Maharashtra

At the Ellora Caves, Kailasa Temple is the enormous shrine of Lord Shiva made of carving rocks. 

The shrine of Kailasa exhibits exemplary architectural skill. Built on just a single rock, the holy place has ingrained in it. Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, upon discovering this three-story-tall chapel ordered to destroy the caves. However, the Kailasa Cave Temple remains as it is. 

According to archaeologists, The interpretation of over 30 million Sanskrit carvings is yet to comprehend. So, the mysteries behind the chapel have remained unsolved. 

6. Lingaraja Temple, Odisha

Lingaraja Temple is one of the oldest temples of Bhubaneshwar of Lord Shiva. 

With the central building of the shrine being 55 m tall, the Lingaraj temple is also the largest shrine in the city. This holy place symbolizes the embodiment of Kalinga architecture.

Shrouded in mystery the temple has multiple tales from its build to destruction. According to the legend, 1200 sculptors worked for 12 years to finish the construction of the building but could not do it. However, a small boy was able to complete the final segment.
